FARM TO BAR
Drach-oc sources cacao beans from their own farms in Cambodia and from local farmers in the region. Nearly a third of their farmers and employees come from indigenous tribes like the Bunong and Krung. In 2014, together with their sister company, Kamkav Farm, they became the first cacao farmers in Cambodia. The hilly lands of Mondulkiri were deliberately chosen for their mild, rainy climate, higher altitudes, fertile volcanic soil, and proximity to Cambodia's largest waterfalls for fresh water. Their cacao is grown as an agro-forestry crop, interspersed with forest and fruit trees, eliminating the need for chemical pesticides and enabling natural pest control.
POLYPHENOLS & CADMIUM
Lab tests show that cacao beans from this region, now known as Bunong Cacao, contain 6.067% polyphenols – the highest amount ever recorded in cacao beans globally. Additionally, Bunong Cacao is nearly free of cadmium and lead, a growing concern in cacao beans from other regions, particularly Meso-America.
FRIEND OF THE EARTH
In December 2023, Kamkav Farm was awarded the Friend of the Earth certification by the WSO, recognising their sustainable cacao farming practices that benefit both the environment and local communities. CFARM, the Cambodia Cacao Farmers NGO, supports this mission by helping farmers maintain eco-friendly practices.
VEGAN
In 2023, Drach-oc received Vegan certification, confirming that all their chocolate products are plant-based, using coconut milk powder instead of dairy.
NO WHITE SUGAR
Drach-oc chocolates contain no white sugar. Instead, they use organic, unrefined blossom sugar derived from Coco Nucifera trees in Indonesia.
MALAYSIAN CHOCOLATE MAKERS
Handcrafted by skilled chocolatiers in Malaysia, Drach-oc chocolates are inspired by the Malaysian rainforests, incorporating natural flavours like pandan leaves. For other flavours, such as honeydew melon, yuzu, and strawberry, ingredients are sourced from across East and Southeast Asia.
DRAGON CHARACTERS
Each box of Drach-oc chocolate features a dragon character from the manga Drach-Oc: The Prophecy. The dark chocolate box features Drach-oc, while the mellow milk chocolate features Mizuki, the pandan chocolate has Tongtongi, and the honeydew melon chocolate shows Riven. Written by Stefan Struik (Netherlands) and illustrated by Darja Blinova (Estonia), the manga can be read for free on the Webtoon app.
