This popular traditional Malay treat is an indulgent combination of aromatic coconut milk-infused glutinous rice filled with a mouth-watering combination of coconut and various spices, encased in banana leaf and then delicately grilled to perfection.

Ingredients: Grated Coconut, Fennel Seeds, Cumin Seeds, Lemongrass, Garlic, Onion, Bird’s Eye Chillies, Ginger, Tamarind, Coconut Palm Sugar, Brown Sugar, Salt, Glutinous Rice, Coconut Milk, Banana Leaves.

Cooking Instructions

STEAM AT HIGH HEAT FOR 10 MINUTES

OR PAN-FRY. ADD 1 TBSP OIL IN NON-STICK PAN (OPTIONAL). PAN-FRY THE SNACKS FOR 5-10 MINUTES IN THE NON-STICK PAN, FLIPPING OCCASIONALLY/

OR GRILL. PRE-HEAT OVEN TO 180℃ FOR 10 MINS. PLACE SNACK IN THE OVEN FOR 10 MINUTES.

Easy snack

I cooked one serving at a time using the instant pot steam function. It is a tasty snack normally made with shrimp, but this one is vegan. It has a sweet and spicy flavor. The nutritional facts are not listed on the product, but I estimate it is 250 calories per serving. There are 5 servings.
