Description

Artisan handmade tempeh using organic sprouted black beans by Woods Eco-Cuisine.

Ingredients: Organic sprouted black beans, culture, filtered water.

Usage suggestion: Thaw, slice, pan-fry with some light sesame oil on both sides until slightly brown, then drizzle teriyaki sauce over.

Storage: Keep frozen.

Disclaimers: As Woods' tempehs are hand made and hand cut, tempeh sizes may vary slightly.

It’s perfectly normal to find black or gray spots on tempeh.  Please rest assured that the tempeh is not spoilt.

To make tempeh, a special type of mold called “Rhizopus” is added to cooked soybeans, beans or other grains. When this mold matures, spores that are black or gray in colour may appear. These spores may appear as small dark spots on the surface of your tempeh, especially in hand-made ones. They are a sign that your tempeh is fully mature and don’t affect the flavour or edibility.

However, if the mold is green or red, it is a sign of spoilage.  Also, if it is slimy or has an ammonia-like smell, you have to discard the tempeh.
